Following her art education at Camberwell College of Art and Kensington & Chelsea, Gil Mutch moved to Southwark in the 1980’s and pretty much stayed there.
Gil’s art practice has remained along the same lines formed at this time as well, drawing (all media) and painting, mostly in oil. The early influences of Expressionist painters, and a visit to Frank Bowlings studio in the 80’s began a love of exploring the qualities of paint. This becomes evident in the use of gesture and colour, the question “what if?” and the “lucky accident” becoming a dominant part of everyday practice.
Loving travelling, like so many, Gil has exhibited in America, Germany and Latvia and likes to convey aspects of her journeys in her work. A trip to Japan a few years ago is becoming evident in recent works and showing a change in her practice.
